Hey, hello, and welcome. It’s time for our third Ass in Chair Collective meetup for March! New here? Not sure what the heck we’re talking about?
Here’s the deal:
This month Emily Mohn-Slate of Be Where You Are and I are hosting a new series of virtual meetups to make space for creative folks (that’s you!) to connect and work on projects. The idea is to create a coffee shop vibe on Zoom, and to collectively carve out an hour in the workday to put our energy into our creative pursuits— together.
We’re trying out a bunch of times throughout March, but once we tally all the people who showed up, we’ll settle on a regular time to meet (🚨 FYI: your ass in a chair is your vote! 🚨) Paid subscribers will have access to all the meetups, and we’ll maintain at least one per month-ish for anyone.
Sound cool?
🪑This week’s Ass in Chair meetup is Friday, 3/21 from 12-1pm EST🪑
💥So far, our first 2 meetups have been super fun! We’ve had folks join from EVERY TIME ZONE in the US, and we’ve collectively put in 32 hours of creative work!💥
People have put their asses in chairs and 🪑worked on editing novels and essays; 🪑they’ve crafted cute flowers and stuffed dice; 🪑they’ve worked on baking projects, 🪑planted seeds, 🪑painted paintings, and 🪑done their morning pages. People have also 🪑written to their representatives and completed other political action, and we are here for ALL OF IT.
It’s awesome. Whatever creative thing you do will fit right in!
Um. I’m in a Long Pause. Is this for me?
The short answer is: YES, if you want it to be!
Maybe you’re in a space where working on creative stuff is inaccessible or painful or just…messy. That’s ok. Part of the point of the Ass in Chair Collective is to acknowledge that you don’t stop being a creative person when you’re Paused. You can work on e-mails or meditate or doodle for an hour— because what you do with this hour is less important than deliberately connecting with other creative people and holding space for your creative work.
The Ass in Chair Collective is about giving yourself a doorway to walk through later, and a supportive community to validate your choice to steal time from your day and be creative. Or proto-creative. Whatever.
If that sounds like something you need, join us!
AND! 💥If you’ve put your ass in the chair at one of our earlier meetups this month, sound off in the comments, or invite your friends! 💥
Love this! Meeting with others on Zoom to work on our individual creative projects has been a game-changer for me. I can't make the one today, but hope to join in the future. So glad you're creating this space:).
